Thank you to students and parents who helped out with the tournament.  I also wanted to let you know, that the custodians sent out a special thank you to the team for their help in cleaning up after the tournament.  Y'all did a great job. 

 

There are still a few dishes that need to be reclaimed.  We finished off the tacos at practice on Monday.  The chips that were brought in by the speech classes for extra credit will be eaten during the week by the different classes.

Trip to Wichita Northwest

November 7

This tournament is a Saturday tournament for novice.  We will leave from the school parking lot at 6:35 a.m. There are 5 rounds of competition followed by awards.  Bring money for food.  Students attending:  Jack Van Dam, Joel Trembly, Geoff Cox, Preston Kirkhart, Steven McMillen,

 

Trip to Valley Center

November 6-7

This tournament is a Friday-Saturday tournament for Varsity debaters.  There will be a jv break out elimination rounds.  We will leave early from school on Friday for two rounds.  On Saturday, we will leave from the school parking lot at 6:30 a.m.   Bring money for food.  Students attending:  Jacob Lancaster, Mo Khan, Chase Johnson, and Jeff Marshall 

 

Trip to Campus

November 10

This tournament is a Tuesday tournament for novice.  We will leave from the school parking lot before school is over (around 2 p.m.). There are 3 rounds of competition followed by awards.  Bring money for food.  Students attending:  Hannah Mallets, Miranda Leibold, Ben Gallman, Taylor Holt, Preston Kirkhart, Steven McMillen, Joel Trembly, Jack Van Dam, Emma Mallets, and J.J. Weir.

 

Trip to Shawnee Mission East & West

November 12-14

This tournament is an overnight tournament.  We leave on Thursday night after school for competition on Friday and Saturday.  There are 5 rounds of competition, plus outrounds.  I have the invite for SME, am still waiting for SMW.  To be eligible as a novice, you must compete at a tournament before this date.  Divisions for SME are Varsity and JV.  Bring money for food.  Students attending:  Jacob Lancaster, Mo Khan, Zach Davis, Mo Abid, Chase Johnson, Jeff Marshall, Courtney Schwartzbeck, Tyler Norton, Joel Trembly, Andrew Ingram, and Jacob Hoepner.  There may be one additional team going.

November 17

December 4-5

This tournament is a Friday-Saturday tournament for all debaters.  There are three divisions:  varsity, open & novice.  There will be elimination rounds for any team novice to varsity that has the record to continue competing.  We will leave early from school on Friday for three rounds.  On Saturday, we will leave from the school parking lot at 6:30 a.m.   Bring money for food.  Students attending:

(National Forensic League)
 
 
 
The National Forensic League is a National organization dedicated to the promotion of speech and debate. Belonging to the organization provides several opportunities to students including: participation in district tournaments, nationally recognized achievement for college applications, and a chance to qualify and attend the National Forensics tournament. The organization has a ranking system for its members, which allows them to compare their abilities to students across the nation. 
  
The ranking system for the NFL is as follows:
   
NFL points for debate:
  
Each debate win = 6
 
Each debate loss = 3
  
NFL points for forensics:
  
For extemp, original oratory, and informative rounds:
            1st – 6, 2nd – 5, 3rd – 4, 4th – 3, 5th – 2, 6th –1
  
For dramatic, humorous, poetry, prose, and duo:
            1st – 5, 2nd – 4, 3rd – 3, 4th – 2, 5th – 1, 6th – 1
  
NFL points for Student Congress: You can earn up to 6 points per speech given at each congress session with a limit of 24 total points.
 
To JOIN NFL:
 
For a student to qualify for NFL, they must earn 25 points as explained above. Students must also be in good standing at their school.  
 
Once a member of the organization, students receive ranks based upon their progression in the activity. Currently, the highest rank is at 1500 points.

 

LETTERING:
  
To letter in debate and/or forensics your first year, you must receive 75 NFL points within the semester (or the equivalent). 
 
If you are an advanced debater or forensicator, you must receive 100 NFL points within the semester (or the equivalent).
