Andover Central will be hosting a novice tournament on October 24th.  It will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will last till about 8 p.m.

Students are required to be at this tournament for its entirety to assist in hosting the tournament.  In addition, advanced student will be required to provide food for the judge's lounge and to provide judges for the tournament.

If there are conflicts or difficulties, it is the student's responsibility to make alternative arrangements with the coach at least 2 weeks in advance.  It will be the coach's decision (based upon ACHS rules) to agree to make alternative arrangements.

This assignment is worth 100 points total.  (There may be an additional Tuesday night novice tournament in November.)

ASSIGNMENT SPECIFICS:

Requirements:

Judging:  All advanced students are responsible for having judges available at the tournament.

The first student to fill a given slot gets the slot.

Each advanced debater must provide 5 judging slots at the tournament.  The first student to fill a given slot gets the slot.

To have the best possible judges for the tournament, untrained judges must be able to attend a judging workshop before the tournament.  The workshop experience is very important (remember how you feel after having a "bad" judge).  There will be a workshop before the tournament (Tuesday, October 20th).  If your judge is a current high school junior or senior debater or a recent high school debater, they may be exempt from this requirement (check with me before making this assumption).

Food:  All students are responsible for bringing in food for the hospitality room at the tournament.  We  want to keep all judges and coaches happy.  Each student will be required to bring in food or utensils/plates, etc.

Food Signup List

In addition, each student will be assigned tasks to do before, during, and after the tournament.  Tasks may include, but are not limited to:  concessions, timekeeping, ballot running, cleanup, food preparation, room checking, judge upkeep, registration, tabroom assistance, and general gophering.

Finally, behave.  Come with a good and patient mood that is ready to be helpful and tolerant.  For this assignment, behavior will be a part of your grade.

This assignment may be considered an all or nothing assignment.  If you are having difficulty meeting any of these requirements, let me know early.  If possible, I will adjust requirements (if I have enough of something or can work out another arrangement with other students).  If you cannot be here for the tournament, you need to make arrangements beforehand to make up for the time that you will be missing.
